What is Harrison Street DIY?

A community gathering space built with labor of love

Harrison St was built as a collaboration of professionals and volunteers, resulting in a product that has the direct influence of the park users, while also having the architectural integrity to last. The techniques used at Harrison St are practically identical to those used to build municipal skateparks across the country. Now that the skatepark faces demolition, we decided to host Site 4 at this valuable community space to celebrate all it has contributed and to serve as an alternative fundraiser to support its plans moving forward, hopefully to a different location.

A History of “Sites”

activating urban spaces with art and creativity

Conceived collectively and launched in 2021, the Site series invited artists to activate public spaces in the city’s urban core and to form an active consortium of independent, artist-run spaces.

Site One: November 2021

Site One was hosted at the former Robert H. Gillham Fountain and Wading Pool in Gillham Park

Site Two: April 2022

was presented pond-side at Loose Park in April 2022

Site Three: July 2022

Site Three was organized at the H&R Block Artspace, welcoming this nomadic art event indoors for the first time.
