Sky Maggiore:
where the ground welts
The exhibition is an ongoing exploration of the fresnel lens as a signaling and survival tool through photographs, experimental photographic processes, steel and glass casting. The fresnel lens is commonly used to project light from lighthouses, traffic lights and airport runways, and to create fire in survival kits. Its pattern comes together in concentric rings, reminiscent of a target, and its magnification properties abstract what is behind it.
This work draws connections between the fresnel, the injustices and expectations both the landscape and the body endure and their interconnected pleas for survival. Imagery and sculpture are used to explore Maggiore's personal experience with grief, loss, building family, and nuances of transmasculinity.
