Empty hours
Nada Bayazid & Yasi Farah
Eruption. Emerging. Teething. teething is a two-person exhibition by Nada Bayazid and Yasi Farah in the Waiting Room’s Main Gallery. The artists have been witnesses to the evolution of each other’s work through the years, inspiring one another and merging slowly. In graduating and realizing themselves as artists beyond scholarship, the artists explore new ground on the personal front.
In teething, Nada introduces new material, imagery and techniques into her work that juxtaposes the comfort she used to find in large oil paintings. She continues to explore themes such as memory and identity, yet introduces a more nuanced approach when it comes to depicting certain information. Yasi expands what fiber means to them beyond paper. They lean into material exploration, finding opportunity in the tension that blooms in marrying synthetic and organic materials, to reckon with the self and highlight the significance of labor. The vestiges that exist in teething honor the hours of labor that goes into craft. teething is a union of transformations.
